Hems Illustration in Semi-Permanent 2008 Book

I was fortunate enough to have the illustration that I originally created for my Hems advertisement campaign accepted into the 2008 Semi-Permanent Book. Every year Semi-Permanent holds a series of events that travel across Europe, featuring some of the art industries biggest names. The book is given away to all attendees. I highly advise everyone to purchase it. The book serves as a great resource of very inspirational work from all around the world.

CAMP FIREBELLY

Tomorrow I will be venturing back out to Firebelly Design in Humboldt Park to take part in their very first design camp coined as Camp Firebelly. Ten people from all over the country were selected to take part in this ten day charrette, involving intense collaboration with a nonprofit client. This will be a great opportunity to work with a great group of fresh minds, all while enjoying the city. I am very excited for the journey and will be posting the results when I return.

HOW 2008 GETS INVADED

Last week I had the opportunity to travel out to Boston with four of my close friends/creatives. We traveled around Boston for a couple of days and then attended the 2008 HOW Conference, which took place at the Hynes Convention Center. We were able to sit in on many inspirational sessions. You can visit our blog at how.getsinvaded.com for an in depth look at the sessions we visited. Check out Flickr too for some sweet pics of the event.

Cannes Short Film Corner 2008

For the past month and a half I have been designing, producing, printing and constructing collateral for "Eyelids," a film created by my collective Rubbish. Over 200 DVDs, 2000 flyers and 500 business cards were produced to be distrubuted at the 2008 Cannes Short Film Corner. Brad, our writer and director, along with Bob, our producer, began their journey to France today. They will be promoting the film for the next week. You can view the "Eyelids" catalogue page here.

Looptopia 2008

On Friday, May 2, 2008 Rubbish spent the night with Chicago at an annual event known as "Looptopia." This poster I created helped draw in a crowd for our up and coming book "Blowing Kisses to the Windy City." The book will contain a collection of love notes addressed to Chicago. As I embark on the process of creating the book, I will post more about it. We also had the chance to run our very own Midnight Film Fest, where we screened our latest films and sold merch to promote current and future projects. Please enjoy the Flickr Gallery and Behind the Scenes edit of the night.

Square One 2008

Last weekend I had the chance to compete in The Illinois Institute of Art - Schaumburg's annual design event "Square One." There were around 30 participants this year and we were all given 8 hours to solve a design problem given to us on the spot. Our task was to create a book jacket, point-of-purchase display, mailer, table of contents and two page spread. It was definately a challenge, with the book relating to the travels of a mistress set in a post World War I era. Awards were presented on Wednesday with everyones work on display. I was honored to walk away with the First Place Square One cube and prize package.

CAKE -- DANGER ISSUE

The past 3 months I have been art directing, constructing and designing the sixth edition of the magazine CAKE (Chicago Arts, Knowledge & Entertainment) alongside my fellow classmates. The issue took on the theme of "Danger" and was encompassed in every realm through the contributing designers. Yesterday we had the opportunity to launch it off with a release party at The Illinois Institute of Art - Schaumburg, in a room decorated to fit the persona of a dark back alley. The release party went well, with great feedback and an ultimate celebration amongst the magazine's contributors. For more information and to purchase the magazine, visit lulu.com/cake

"Love Smoke" A Valen-tee

I recently had the opportunity to collaborate with designer Will Miller of Firebelly Design. We went ahead and came up with our own indivdual illustrations, burned a couple screens and had some fun in the studio with what we like to call color and fabric experimentation. These T-shirt's are the result of a few nights worth of anxiety, stress and excitement. There's truely nothing better than sharing the same passion and combining two insights into one end product.

Recycled Art -- FB Art Market

A few months ago I created a couple of illustrative pieces for the Firebelly Art Market's 50 under $50 wall. I had found a couple canvas' a while back at a local thrift store & thought it would be nice to throw some black ink down on them. I archived my favorite of the two under my Visual Collection.

New Blog & The Birth of Eyelids

So thanks to my dear friend & fellow designer, Mig Reyes busting his CSS skills into my home page, I now have my very own blog. I'll keep this updated with everything I am working on and involving myself with creatively.

This past month Rubbish has been sending our latest short film "Eyelids" to film fests all across the world(Boston, Los Angeles, Canada, France & more). I have been designing and constructing Press Kits and DVD jackets to house the entries of the film, in hopes of grabbing the attention and hearts of the judges.
